Alan Biggs studied drawing and painting at Reading University and the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris. Since 1990 he has concentrated exclusively on sculpture. He has exhibited mainly in the South of England, including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. At an open exhibition in 1993, his entry was awarded first prize for the best sculpture in the exhibition. In 2004 his design for Bibis Criterion restaurant in Leeds was awarded the ‘Sign of the Year Award’. Other recent works include private commissions for television personalities, a trophy design for the Exeter Leukemia Fund, a centre piece for the walled garden at Coughton Court, Alcester and a life sized Mother and Child commissioned for the new NHS Trust Hospital in Okehampton, Devon, which was unveiled by Prince Charles in November 2004. In 2006 he complted a group sculpture for the Children’s Hospice Association of Scotland at Kinross. He works mainly to commission and over the years had done many portraits, particularly of children. |
